Osteopathy
and Aging
Beyond the age of 35 most of us will have experienced some
degree of joint degeneration, classified as osteo-arthritis,
rheumatoid arthritis and many others, but all afflictions
of joints and bone.
Knees, hips, wrists; where the degeneration occurs can depend
on how we are made and what we do/have done in our lives.
More weight and increased loading on our joints increases
the level of wear and tear.
Increasing years lead to a greater occurrence of symptoms.
The lucky ones among us will experience no pain caused by
this wear and tear, but, unfortunately, most will.
Various factors can help. Some have experienced relief through
changing their diet, either by excluding some things or introducing
others. Increased mobility and gentle exercise can help.
It is the body’s natural tendency to tighten up around
a sore joint, ironically this can worsen these conditions.
Reduced motion and joint function lead to a further tightness
and so the condition continues to worsen.
We all know what we should do for our stiff bodies, more
exercise and better diet etc, but not all of us do it, for
whatever reason.
Osteopathic treatment is not only for periods of acute pain,
but also for the maintenance of general health, before these
things can become worse. Contact us today to see how we can help
you to better maintain your health and lifestyle. |
